Chia Seeds - Whats the Hype?

I've been hearing about Chia seeds being a super-food for so long, so I decided to give it a try myself. They are available in most supermarkets and health food shops.

What they Claim to do

Chia Seeds are a super-food they not only do they keep you full for longer but provide so many health benefits including:

  • Antioxidants
  • Omega 3
  • High in Fibre
  • Iron & Calcium
  • Aids weight-loss
  • Helps with Digestive health
  • Balances Blood Sugar Levels

    My Review

    I have been having Chia seeds for around 4 weeks, I wanted to know what the hype was about. I'm generally not a breakfast person so I had this as a mid-morning snack. I definitely felt a lot more energetic, I do seem to have a sluggish digestive system so this did help.
    It does claim to help with weight loss - I don't think 4 weeks is long enough to see major results but I do feel less bloated and seem to have a smaller lunch.

    Chia seeds are a great alternative to traditional breakfast or even on the go. As its packed with so many nutrients you cannot go wrong with introducing this into your diet and lifestyle.

    My Recipe
    We all have busy lifestyles so the thought of having to spend lots of time making breakfast seems like a chore my quick recipe might help and get the health benefits of Chia seeds

  • Mason Jar or recycle an old glass jar with a lid.
  • Coconut Milk
  • Chia Seeds
  • Fruit of your choice - this is optional

    Add a two teaspoons of chia seeds to the jar along with Coconut milk half way, mix thoroughly otherwise they'll stick to the bottom of the jar. Remember that the seeds do expand so you don't need to add more than that. Leave in fridge overnight and enjoy as breakfast or a snack. Add fruit before consumption. This is a great alternative to overnight oats.

    You can also add the seeds to a smoothie or sprinkle on food.

    I have a lot of people asking me about acne solutions. Acne does cause major insecurity and it does knock your confidence. Although you probably notice it more that other people you face on a day to day basis.

    The first this I do suggest is checking your diet. There may be something you're eating that's causing the acne. This is usually the most common cause but probably the last thing you would look at.

    The second thing is going back to basics with your skincare. There are so many products that claim to give you clear skin and yes, some do work but you're probably damaging your skin further by using harsh chemicals. It may be a temporary fix but not a long term solution.

  • Salicylic Face Wash
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Olive Oil

    Salicylic face wash is great to really cleanse your skin, you can use ACV as a toner but make sure you dilute it with water. Olive oil is probably the best oil for acne, not only does it help clear your skin its also anti-ageing.

    Struggling with IBS

    What is IBS?
    IBS stands for irratble bowel syndrome, it is a bowel disorder that causes abdominal pain follwing by either Diarrhea or constipation or in some cases both. It does affect your daily life and routine. 1 in 5 people are effected by IBS at some point of their life.

    What to Eat
    This is the most common question that I get asked. Generally everyone is different. Just because two people have IBS, they are most likely to have different triggers. It could be food related or stress related.

    I would recommend doing a food diary and bringing it along so we can go through any possible triggers, along with a stress chart. This can be just a simple numbers log between 1-10. 10 being to most stressed.

    Also try the following, reducing the amount of carbs, processed foods and insoluble fibre foods. Try eating foods that are easier to digest, drink plenty of water and try to exercise atleast 3 times a week even if its just for 30 minutes.
